White Trash recipe

White Trash.  It's better than it sounds!
I had never heard of this stuff until just recently. Now, it's probably one of my favorite holiday treats (though it would be just as good any other time of year!)

So what is "white trash"? Simply put, it's a glorious combination of sweet, salty, crunchy and highly addictive candy. Sandra Bullock hawked her version of it, Aunt Luddy's White Trash, last year on Jay Leno. Even Alton Brown has his own version of the stuff. I guarantee that once you give it as a gift, you will have many requests for repeat performances.

White Trash

2 cups Corn Chex cereal
2 cups Wheat Chex cereal
2 cups Cheerios
2 cups pretzel sticks
2 cups peanuts
2 bags white chocolate chips
2 teaspoons vegetable oil

Melt white chocolate in a double boiler. While chocolate is melting, mix remaining dry ingredients in a large bowl. When chocolate is melted, stir in vegetable oil. Pour chocolate over the dry ingredients and mix well until everything is evenly coated.

Spread mixture out on a parchment lined baking sheet. Allow to cool completely (preferably over night). Break in to small pieces. Store in ziplock bags or covered container.

Variation: Substitute pecans for the peanuts.  Toss in some M&M's or colored sprinkles.  Try Cinnamon Chex. Add some popcorn. The possibilities are endless.

Enjoy.
