Homemade Febreze Fabric Freshener

I love the smell of a clean house. Unfortunately, I have 3 kids, 3 dogs, 1 bird and 1 husband.  That adds up to a less than fresh home on some days.

When Febreze first came out, I thought I found the best thing ever!  I liked the idea of spraying a few spritzes on my couches and sheets and having the house smell like everything had just been washed and line dried. Unfortunately, with the rate I go through it, the cost became prohibitive to use as often as I would like (ummm, every day, several times a day if I had my way!)  Plus I've also developed more and more chemical allergies as I have gotten older.  I needed something that wouldn't make me break out in a rash or break the bank.

Enter home made cleaning supplies.

I've dabbled in them over the years, found a few that work great and more than a few that didn't work for me at all.  Some were even more expensive than their mass produced counter parts. This one works for me!

At my local Target, a 27 ounce bottle of Febreze runs about $5.00 or 18.5 cents per ounce. This version runs significantly less. I bought a 32 ounce bottle of Isopropyl alcohol at CVS for 1.00, a 2 ounce bottle of lavendar oil* at walmart for 2.25 and a 1 lb box of corn starch for 78 cents.  For the recipe I am about to give you, it will run approximately 32 cents or 2 cents per ounce!

To make:
1 3/4 cups water
1 teaspoon corn starch
1/2- 1 teaspoon lavander oil (depending on how strong you want the scent)
1/4 cup alcohol (may substitute witch hazel if you prefer)

Mix the ingredients in a recycled spray bottle, shake well and spray away.

* Can be found in the craft aisle of Wally world by the silk flowers.  They also make a wonderful "fresh linen" scent that works well in this recipe, too.

Cool idea...the store-bought stuff can be pricey. Thanks!
