Time to snuggle up!

It's cold. Dang cold here right now. And no matter how high up I goose the heater, this house just feels drafty.

I have blankets covering just about every chair in my family room to keep us warmer. But little Diva has wanted a Snugglie for some time. I never got around to buying one because they would have been too big for her (they do make kiddie sized ones now). But Diva is also picky. She likes things certain color and certain patterns. And she thought the plain blue snugglie was "boring"... Plus at 20 bucks a pop, they are rather expensive. Wally world has some great fleece available right now for about $4/yard. This project ended up using two yards to make a child's sized version.

Be hold- our homemade version of a snugglie!

This was one of the easiest projects I have ever done. It's really two straight seams plus setting in the sleeves. Fleece is so forgiving that you don't even need to finish the edges if you don't want to. Since I had the serger out anyway, I did go all around the edges just go give the garment a more finished look.

Layout your two yard of fleece. Cut off a piece about 22 inches from the bottom. Cut that piece in half the short way. This will leave you with one big piece and two smaller pieces about 22 inches by 30 inches

Using your serger or a zig zag stitch, sew up the long seam of each sleeve.

Now, take your big piece of fabric and fold it in half lenth wise. Measure about 10 inches in from the folded edge and abour 12 inches down from the top. Cut an oval about 9 inches long and 6 inches wide through both layers of fabric.

Pin your finished sleeve in the opening and serge the edges together. You may need to ease the sleeves a little bit to get them to fit perfectly- that's ok, the fleece is very forgiving. The sleeves will be quite long. You can cut them shorter if you wish, or just leave them long and roll them up.

That's it- You are done!

Now, go grab your snugglie and go curl up with a good book.

Diva loves hers. It took literally half an hour to make and was sooo easy that I think I'm going to need to make one for me.

THANKS for sharing this!!! Seriously....thanks!
I just posted my own tutorial on making a blanket with sleeves and was also surprised at how easy they are to make! Little Diva's Snugglie turned out awesome:)

PS Have you tried making draft stoppers for under your doors?
